62'
FAST CRUISING SLOOP |
|
The first
two Aiken 62 footers for a Spanish and Danish clients shows our effort to
produce a simple and nice looking boat. Speed is approached in an aggressive
way with modern high aspect foils, carbon rig, and modern composite construction.
In the interior layout spaciousness and symmetry were driven aspects, this
have the hidden benefit of simplifying and improving the structural arrangement.
The deck plan is intended to minimize hardware as much as possible, for
example there is no traveller, runners and genoas. The big running speeds
lows the apparent wind angle, so a gennaker is an excellent choice here.
Eliminating the spinnaker simplifies the deck plan, the sailing, and reduce
the crew. Winches, backstay, outhaul, anchor arm and vang will be hydraulic
operated. A guest cockpit "free of problems" is in the middle
of the boat, while a working area close to the skipper is aft. The transom
door will give access to the zodiac tender. |
